Wexford House

meltonrafa.jpg (12564 bytes)The RAF Association Eagle Lodge concept is to provide supportive shared housing for single persons or those who have found themselves alone in life.

It is designed to encourage independence within a family atmosphere and a caring community. Our residents have their own bed sitting rooms with a communal lounge and dining room. There is a Housekeeper and a Cook present at Wexford House.

All medical needs and care support remain the responsibility of the resident arranged in conjunction with their local Doctor with recourse to State and community resources as needed. Any ex-RAF men or women, their widows and widowers who have reached normal retirement age may apply irrespective of whether they are Members of RAFA.

Residents must be able to live an independent life albeit within a secure environment. The Housekeeper/Manager has a self contained flat within the house and there is a care-call alarm system for use by residents in an emergency.

Applicants apply on the standard residential application form and they are then visited by their local Welfare Officer, for further informtaion a report can be prepared. Potential residents are invited toWexford House for an assessment period of one/two weeks.

This is to ensure that they have made the right choice personally and also from RAFA's point of view and that the family atmosphere that is so important in   this small community will be maintained.

A formal offer of residence will only follow a successful assessment period

About Wexford House

There are no formal rules other than those of common courtesy required in communal living. However, there is a Residents Handbook which outlines various conventions that apply - there are smoking restrictions and no pets are allowed in theinterests of hygiene.

Wexford House itself is a large Edwardian Building catering for 8 residents. The building stands in its own grounds in a residential area of Melton Mowbray. It is within walking distance of the town centre and is well served by public transport.

The Housekeeper/Manager is the Association's representative within the Lodge and is responsible for the Lodge and Residents.

There is a thriving local RAFA Branch and Club. Each bed-sitting room has en-suite facilities plus TV and telephone points. Residents are encouraged to bring their own belongings and furnish their bed-sitting room as they wish - bearing in mind the limitations on space available.

There is a communal kitchen, dining room and lounge plus a conservatory leading into the garden and a launderette for use by the residents.
